Washington State Youth Ballet strives to maintain open communication between faculty, parents, and students via e-blasts, individual emails, bulletin board/door postings, class hand-outs, the WSYB website, and Facebook.
If a parent or student wants to speak with an instructor, don't hesitate to contact the Director for an appointment. Please keep your contact information current at all times.
SCHOOL CLOSURE POLICY
With the safety of the students and the parents in mind, classes will not be held when the Walla Walla public schools are closed due to weather. When school begins late, WSYB will hold classes as scheduled. If the weather becomes severe and school has not closed, the Director will contact the families of students taking a class that day and let them know whether the class will be happening. Please check with the academy about when your student may make up their missed classes. If the Federal Government is closed, WSYB will be closed as well.
CONDUCT AND DISCIPLINE
Occasionally, there can be behavior problems in the studio, distracting students and disrupting the class's progress. The instructor will give the student a verbal warning. If the behavior continues, the student will be asked to watch class, and the Director will contact the parents/guardians. Working together in a positive way to understand the behavior and why it's happening, WSYB inspires students with tools they can use to help them cope with issues they may be having.
WSYB'S POLICIES ON BEHAVIOR AND PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES
We are committed to providing a healthy and supportive environment. This policy applies to everyone at WSYB, including our students and their families, WSYB employees, guests, and visitors. We expect everyone, at all times, to treat each other respectfully. We prohibit any inappropriate and offensive conduct, including, without limitation, name-calling, making malicious, false, or derogatory comments, harassment, spreading rumors and lies, gossiping, making fun of others, fighting or instigating a fight, threatening behavior, using profane or abusive language, destruction of property, stealing, and any other malicious conduct, whether verbal or physical. This also applies to social media postings identifying or involving WSYB students or their families. WSYB has a zero-tolerance policy for all weapons, illegal drugs, and underage use of cigarettes and vaping items. This applies to students who bring a weapon or banned substance to WSYB, regardless of its intended use, or arrive at WSYB or a WSYB event under the influence of alcohol or an illegal drug.
WSYB reserves the right to remove or dismiss anyone who WSYB determines, in its discretion, has engaged in conduct in violation of any part of this policy. No tuition refund will be given.
PICKING UP/DROPPING OFF STUDENTS
When dropping off students, please ensure they have plenty of time to prepare for class. Students need to have time to warm up and be dressed in the appropriate dress code. If a student is more than 10 minutes late for class, it will be at the instructor's discretion whether or not they can participate. If not, they will be asked to watch the class. Ballet classes are structured to warm the body slowly, and missing the beginning of class is an injury risk.
Please be as prompt as you can when picking up your children, especially in the late evening. We will always have someone at the studio until the last student leaves in case of a delay or emergency. Please get in touch with the school if you are going to be late picking up your student. All dancers must wear clothing over their dance attire when being dropped off or picked up. Parking lots are public areas, so please be covered appropriately.
Fathers will not be allowed in the female dressing room. If you have a young dancer, please ensure they are dressed before coming to the studio, or you can take them into one of our two bathrooms to help them prepare for their class.
CLASS ATTENDANCE
Our dancers must attend their classes regularly, as repetition is vital to dance training. If a dancer cannot be present for class, please notify the Director by phone or email before their class. Students are encouraged to make up absences. Please call the Director to discuss times that would work for the student for the appropriate make-up class.
STUDIO ETIQUETTE
WSYB's goal is to prepare dancers from a young age to reach their maximum potential. Level by level, as students move through our curriculum, they will be challenged to apply themselves fully to fulfill their desired goals in dance. Once again, we expect everyone, at all times, to treat each other respectfully. The dance world is small, and just like life, the people you stand next to today may be the leaders of tomorrow. Please refrain from behavior that will take away from the entire class having an educational and enriching experience.
Students, siblings, parents, and visitors must conduct themselves quietly and respectfully in lobbies, hallways, dressing rooms, and bathrooms.
Please keep dressing rooms neat and orderly— respect others' property.
All children must be supervised at all times. Running, climbing, and excessive noise will not be tolerated.
No videos of classes will be permitted without the instructor's permission.
