Pre Professional Division
The Advanced Division/Pre Professional continues to build-upon student’s technique and physical strength. Pointe work for girls is introduced and developed. Dancers from this Division are invited to join the WSYB Youth Company Collective rehearsals on Saturdays
This division includes levels Beginning Pointe, Intermediate Pointe and Advanced Pointe.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions,Beginning and Intermediate Pointe will be combined. Upon discretion of the teacher, students may be allowed to take the Advanced Pointe.
The placement of students from levels Beginning to Advanced Pointe is based on ability and not the age of the student. Students are placed where they will benefit, be safe, and grow the most. Students will progress through our levels at different rates. This is completely normal and needed to keep their bodies safe and to help their mind and body connect. When a dancer has shown they have an understanding of the technique for each level and strength enough to soundly dance the vocabulary learned safely, the director will determine that the student is ready to move to the next level.
See Dress Code for leotard information.
Open Technique Class/Adult - Pre Professional Division
This class allows multiple levels from the Advanced division to dance together and learn from each other. This is usually a faster-paced class. Junior Division dancers by invitation of the Director
Variations -Pre Professional Division
Phyllis Rothwell's career has allowed her to dance some of the most famous roles in ballet's repertoire. Giving back this knowledge to the students is pure joy for her. Learn the variations from great classic ballets. Each week the students will learn a variation and perform it in front of their peers. Learn the skills of being a soloist in a nurturing environment. Students will receive individual coaching throughout the class. Junior Division dancers by invitation of the Director. Variations may be performed virally in Dance competitions.
See Dress Code for leotard information.
The goal of WSYB is to prepare dancers from whatever age they join the studio to reach their full potential. As the students move through our curriculum, they will be challenged to apply themselves to fulfill their goals, not just in dance but in all the passions of their lives. WSYB strives to give every student the ability to mature at a pace that is beneficial to them. Dancers mustn't be pushed to achieve physical goals that may be harmful to growing bodies and souls.
With a background in many styles of Ballet training, Phyllis has taken from each method of instruction and refined it to create a syllabus that will produce well rounded and knowledgeable students. They will be able to adapt to different styles of teaching with integrity and safety.
Students need to arrive on time for class, in the proper attire, with hair for the girls, secured. The dress code is designed to encourage unity, simplicity, and discipline among our students.
